Bless This Pet... San Antonio's Animals enjoy a thorough blessing!

Whilst we're all looking for ways to improve ourselves this new year it would seem that our animals have no such problems... 17th Jan is San Antonio day and in our town it's also the best day to get your pet blessed. After a morning mass there is then an elaborate procession before the main event takes place. Adults and kids alike all lined up with various animals in hand, up jumpers or peering out of bags to receive a well earned blessing from the local priest whilst horses pranced by and everyone old, young and furry enjoyed the winter sunshine!

Chris & Claire Got Married in Ibiza!

It's what we'd all been looking forward to and everyone wanted Claire & Chris to have a perfect (and sunny) wedding day. Unfortunately Ibiza in February is most unpredicatable and the night before had seen a violent storm, so when me and Candy arrived the venue looked battered and most un-wedding like. Still, it was going ahead no matter what and there was no way they were going to be disappointed.

The idea was to create a romantic area on the beach with guests watching the bride's arrival seated by the sea whilst the staff of the Hostal Talamanca worked on the patio organising drinks and aperitifs. The soggy weather was however firmly in charge of everything and there was nothing else for it than to try and clear an area and get going with the gazeebo and chairs...

Thankfully Candy is not one to panic in such situations and within no time the venue, under dripping awnings and puddles became a wedding setting to be proud of.

I had offered to provide the couple with their wedding shots and was quite nervous that with all the wind and rain that the task would difficult and that it would show in the shots. However with such a happy bride & groom and an excellent set of family and friends who were all over the moon to be there, it was all a total pleasure. The ceremony was expertly conducted by Sonia, who may work in the British Consulate by day, but by night becomes Ibiza's finest priestess, she did a great job and it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present. And Amanda, chief friend and bridesmaid who was fretting over her reading, delivered her piece like the pro we all knew she was...

The relief that it was all over was then clearly obvious...

With the ceremony finished and the group arranged and then rearranged for all the photos, it was then time to enjoy the dinner, and the obligatory room full of people swaying to 'My way'... perfect!
Considering how much more of an influence the weather could have had on this day, I don't think the blustery rain soaked scene outside could have mattered less. Everyone was looked after so well by the hotel staff and were so happy for Chris & Claire that a hurricane could have probably blown through reception and no-one would have known.

As the chairs and gazeebo bounced there way home in the back of Candy's truck it was a job well done and a pleasure to be a part of.

The Impossible Wedding Made Possible - San Miguel, Ibiza

You might think that wandering back and forth in a busy restaurant with arms full of sparklers and boxes of candles is a bit strange and we may look a bit flustered and hot, there might also be a few odd glances in our direction but the end result always speaks for itself… The location for the http://www.whateveribiza.com/ team this week is San Miguel, too easy it would seem to create a ceremony on the main beach there, which is therefore why we selected a far more inaccessible location to hold the proceedings! The beach in question is known in Ibiza for its simple yet delicious meals of fresh Sardines, here word of mouth has created a kind of twice weekly vigil of local people and well informed tourists alike who descend upon the tiny kiosk restaurant to enjoy this hidden authentic Mediterranean experience.
This venue also lends itself perfectly to the kind of intimate, yet stylish ceremony the couple had in mind. There might have been the small matter of a near vertical dirt track to negotiate, but with the aid of Juanito and his tractor, this was not a problem and everything needed for 1 x beach ceremony was delivered intact.
It’s hard to imagine a beautiful wedding taking place when you first arrive, there is a beach and a beach bar, but nothing really screams ‘marry me here’! We made a start on the gazebo first which is by far the trickiest aspect of it all - and especially in 40 degrees of midday heat! Simple patio chairs were also transformed into flowing white decorations and were placed either side of a white aisle scattered with flower petals. We were drenched by the end of it, but the result was marvelous and worthy of any bride.
The groom and all the family then descended and were clearly impressed with the spectacle of it all. Juanito’s kiosk also served a well needed drink stop and then provided the wedding song for the arrival of the bride over its sound system.
She looked lovely and had heroically dealt with the treacherous path as no-one in such footwear had ever before I would have thought! There were tears and smiles and lots of photos, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves which is the most important thing.
Before it got too dangerous for the party to return across the cliff top and before Juanito ran out of Beer, they went off to have their wedding meal in the Balansat Restaurant. It was all topped off by an excellent reception in Casey’s Irish Bar where Peter played the first dance for them and everyone settled in for a long night! Our work was done however and it was time to leave tired but very pleased with how it had all gone. When Toshiba Italy Came To Ibiza

What's the best type of work conference? The one that comes to Ibiza for 2 days of total VIP treatment no expense spared of course! Thankfully these type of conferences also need photographers, and luckily for me they choose Ibiza Photography for the job. The experience started off on beautiful Es Cavelet Beach at S'escollera Restaurant. The group of 80 were whisked in by coach courtesy of http://www.ibizahire.com/ Everything was immaculately arranged for them by the girls at the very professional http://www.c-zone.it/ and everyone immediately began the tough task of really enjoying themselves! Only 3 HUGE paellas would do for a group of this size, all arriving atop 3 struggling waiters per dish!
As subjects go this crowd were excellent and not at all bothered by my intrusion into their dinner experience. The only work related event then began inside, a presentation of Toshiba Italy's sales figures; that small inconvenience aside, there was not a moment to spare and it was then off to the hotel with everyone where 80 identical white linen suits awaited the group.
They certainly stood out, and almost seemed to float into the Blue Marlin a couple of hours later. The scene was perfect, a trendy pair of DJ/Musicians occupied the centre of the bar, clearly not satisfied with having only their mixing to attend to, it seemed that every instument ever invented had made it into their work space. Each was being played with random ferocity whenever the beat permitted, first the flute was out, then it ws the turn of the double bass...all in the name of funky chill out! It went down well, which was good as our group of flowing linen clad Italians had pretty much taken over the entire place! All too soon our alloted time was up, there was time only for a few shots of the group, who were well oiled by this point and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Next stop Ibiza Town, the group were bussed in whilst I entered the every man for himself lottery of parking in Ibiza Town, I shall mention this more than once no doubt! My eye of the Tiger ruled as I skidded past a prior to this, very unhurried family getting into their car... They soon moved as I my pleading glare obviously made me look totally pathetic and needy. I had been provided with only 1 brief to stick to 'photograph everyone arriving to each event' Perfect! So as everyone else sauntered languidly through town, I shuffled and ran through their relaxed midst, camara equipment a total blur! It worked, I made it - the group arrived completely unharried, a total contrast to my sweaty self!
The venue was La Torreta an exquisite restaurant in the picturesque old town. The pretty and timeless Dalt Vila was all around, a gem of a backdrop for any diner and a pleasure for any photographer. Toshiba took up every table and created a great atmosphere. They were also a sight to behold for the hoardes of passers by who were quite rightly curious as to what this linen clad troup were all about. For their part Toshiba had a fantastic time, the food was magnificent and was all topped off with the biggest glass/vase of Lemoncello I have ever seen. This was the moment that a group goes from an easy to manage collection of people to a bendy assortment of singing unresponsives...! Bar Zoo was next and with that the daunting prospect for Margherita and the girls of collecting them all up yet again and despatching them by small boats to El Divino!
El Divino itself sits alongside some breathtaking examples of wealth and only the most expensive of yachts can glitter so. The sparkling beauty of Ibiza Town crowned the scene, perfect for the now rather depleted Toshiba group... They immediately collapsed gratefully into the awaiting VIP lounge which looked as if it had been made just for them!
It was hometime for me, an exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable Day 1 was over!

Day 2 brought with it glorious sunshine and terror at the harbour; where's the boat?! Why is it so hard to park in Ibiza Town (I knew I would come back to this) why don't I look as preened and effortless as all these people? Do they even allow red faced people who can't run in flip flops into the attractive harbour area?? 4 phonecalls to the ever cool Margherita soon sorted this mess out and I was then introduced to the crew who I managed to sweat all over!
Then they were there, none the worse for wear from their marathon the previous day and in fine spirits for their immaculately organised day ahead. Trasmapi have a beautiful catamaran which was perfect for this event, nets were suspended over the sea below and as we sailed away all who wanted to be were attended to by the hard working team from http://www.ibizamassage.com/

All food and drink was laid on and then it was time for a swim in the impossibly Turquoise water of Formentera.
Much to my horror an very bouncy looking speed boat then sidled up to take us 8 at a time to the shore. I have an intense forboding of getting on and off boats which is only heightened by having inummerable peices of personal and camera kit bouncing off me! The shore was upon us in some very short noisy seconds and out we went wading off onto the super attractive Formentera. I had great vest marks by this time, so I fitted right in!
Lunch was at Tanga Beach, a large area of which was cordoned off and a massage tent erected next to the volleyball court. The beach was idyllic and everyone really enjoyed the treats laid on for them, everything neccessary had been considered by C-Zone and no-one wanted for anything. It was a pleasure to have such good subjects and such a great setting in which to capture them.
All too soon it was over and it was time for me to show everyone how to get into a speedboat properly...! The voyage back to Ibiza was relaxed and subdued - everyone was knackered! The cathedral of Ibiza slowly drifted into view lit perfectly by the now setting sun.
KM5 was the ideal venue for the farewell dinner. The meal itself was well enjoyed t othe typical Ibiza backdrop of Saxophone players and transvestite stilt walkers... I was spared the after dinner VIP Pacha experience as I had to work on the photos the next day, but as I watched the last of the coaches pull away into the night, I thought myself very lucky to have met Margherita and her team and very privileged to have had this opportunity to work with such a great group - Thank you Toshiba!

Ibiza Photography - A New Service For Weddings

Living in Ibiza all year round is a real treat and has the added benefit of us having this beautiful place to ourselves for half the year when the tourists all go home. One of the best reasons to be here for me is the fantastic photography oportunities on offer no matter where you are on the Island. Even San Antonio has its lovely spots don't you know!

Creating www.ibizaphotography.com has therefore been an exciting new challange for me and allows me to do a job that I love. At the moment the wedding scene is really popular in Ibiza and couples wanting a more intimate and natural approach are coming to me. This is the style I love, unobtrusive but retaining a sense of a personal touch.
